Nexus is a structured inpatient mental health program that integrates stabilization, ongoing psychiatric assessment, and transition planning into a single coordinated care pathway. Designed for adults with complex or co-occurring mental health conditions, Nexus bridges the gap between standard outpatient care and the need for more acute hospitalization. Nexus also provides an opportunity to stabilize and ensure readiness, prior to engaging in other treatment programs at Homewood. Nexus combines symptom containment, foundational skills building, evidence-informed therapeutic interventions, and measurement-based assessment to prepare patients for successful transition to the next phase of their recovery journey, whether that is another inpatient program, comprehensive outpatient supports or community reintegration.
Many patients achieve initial diagnostic clarity or brief stabilization yet fail to sustain progress – particularly those with complex or co-occurring presentations, who are at the highest risk during care transitions.

The Nexus program is intentionally time-limited and focused, providing the appropriate level of structured care without defaulting to open-ended treatment. It is distinct from both acute psychiatric hospitalization and standard outpatient therapy, occupying a critical step-down or bridging role in the continuum of mental health care.

How to Refer a Patient to Nexus
Nexus is part of Homewood Health’s national continuum of inpatient and outpatient mental health and addiction services. The program is delivered by experienced interdisciplinary teams — including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists — and is grounded in evidence-informed clinical practices. Nexus accepts referrals from physicians, psychiatrists, and allied health professionals.

A nationally recognized flagship program combining 24/7 medical care, withdrawal management and a skilled interdisciplinary team.
Designed specifically for health care workers experiencing challenges related to substance use and concurrent issues relating to mood and or anxiety.
Uses various treatments and novel psychopharmacological agents to provide care for treatment-resistant depression and other mental health conditions.
This program allows time to fully explore mood (e.g. depression, bipolar disorder) and/or anxiety disorders and, where applicable, the intersection of these in combination with substance use issues.
