The Emergency Mental Health and Addictions Service (EMHAS) provides crisis assessment, and crisis supports to residents of all ages within Guelph and Wellington county to ensure individuals with mental health and addictions concerns receive timely, safe, respectful and effective care.
As part of the EMHAS, there is a Short Stay Assessment Unit (SSAU) in the emergency department at Guelph General Hospital which accepts crisis-related admissions and provides short-term crisis care.
The EMHAS is a collaborative effort involving Homewood Health Centre, CMHA Waterloo-Wellington, and Guelph General Hospital, with input from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, community services, and rural Wellington hospitals.

MHAEFUS provides urgent follow-up services for adults (18+) who are experiencing a mental health and/or addiction crisis. MHAEFUS is a short term bridge of support (2-4 weeks) directly from the Guelph General Hospital (GGH) Emergency Department until connection with community supports is set up. Our team includes Mental Health Nursing, Therapist, Addictions and Mental Health as well as Psychiatry.

Client-centred, highly individualized treatment, support and rehabilitation for Guelph and Wellington County residents with severe and persistent mental illness.
Assesses and stabilizes patients exhibiting life-threatening or self-injurious behaviour related to mental illnesses or disorder.
Provides intensive case management with treatment and community support strategies to address the challenges of self-care, productivity, and leisure.
Specialized care to older adults in Guelph-Wellington who are coping with a crisis, with dementia, or with mood disorders.
Helps to stabilize clients with complex mental health and co-occurring needs, reduce distress, and increase the success of a return to the community.
At Homewood Health we recognize that family and/or friends are an important part of a patient’s social support system, and family/friend involvement is determined based on the patient’s individual needs.
